The Review:
Advertising
is becoming a prevailing method of bringing employers and job-seekers together,
but it is slowly being windswept by old and new methods. Candidates are going
through difficult times, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, with my
help I will ensure it's not a train. Growing up I believed it was important to
study, to have degrees and hold qualifications. Some drink from the fountain of
knowledge, others gargle. Universities may teach people what to think,
they should focus more on how to think. My aunt used to tell me that it's
better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.
What
could be harder than making a company known? I'll tell you what -making a
person known. I have created The Review with the intention of influencing people
to action. Marketing is a fight for a person's most valuable resource-
TIME. There is no recipe for success, if there was some people would be
carrying bad ingredients. Unfortunately 'go-getters' don't always get a
fair chance. I think we all need to look at the people we are surrounded by,
cynical people will laugh at innovative ideas. We have to be pioneers,
innovative, exploring unknown territory. The Review reveals that only fools
duplicate the ideas of fools.
In
today's post, I interview another candidate Irene Haimovich, with the
intention of telling her story, her search for work and the problems she has
encountered.
Jason
Question: Irene in a paragraph can you tell my readers about your experience
and qualifications ?
Irene Answer: I am a Senior Project Manager with more than
10 years experience in delivery of end to end projects. I am a Mechanical
Engineer with Master in Business.
Jason: How long have you been
out of work for?
Irene: I was retrenched in
February this year.
Jason :What search methods have you used whilst looking for work? (List websites)
Irene: I have tried almost everything: Job boards as: Seek, My Career, LinkedIn, Career One, Job Alert, Local Job Boards of the Hills. I have contacted recruiters asking for a chance to meet with them but their answer was always, "send us your resume and we will contact you when we will have something suitable for you".
I have started to send my resume to companies explaining my experience. And the first step was, contacting my network, but we have only been in Sydney for 2.5 years, therefore my networks very poor and most of it was 'lost' with my retrenchment.
Jason :How have you been treated by recruitment agencies? Elaborate on problems you have experienced.
Irene:The recruit agency receives dozens of resumes for each role, initial screening is probably by a software program. When I tried to follow up I received answers such as "you do not have the exact experience that our customer is looking for". And the meaning of "the exact experience" is you are not coming from the same industry with the same role, but I am a project manager which is the most transferable profession that it can be. Furthermore if I would like to fit, I have no idea how to get the experience that the customer is looking for if since I am not given the opportunity to learn. I have said I will work at a lower rate, that didn't help. If I tried to apply for junior roles I received answers such as "over qualified".
